To Indigeny,
This poem is offered as a communication from a representative of "civilization" to indigenous peoples everywhere. As such, it is fervently wished by the writer that it could represent the attitude of his peers. To that end, he has dedicated his remaining years and efforts, eyes open to the likelihood of success.
The "Ancient Homeland" I refer to is the place in Africa from which the first of human kind evolved, and eventually radiated.

Weep For UsA Message to the Indigenous Peoples of Earth© 1994 By James Lester Your ancient ancestors came into lands A heritage from which we Westerners Through you we have had the chance We are the product of what happened On your great treks The Americas The archipelagoes Australia Into the savannas Africa Weep for Us Our ancestors knew not Of your departure You knew not of their travail Rejoice in your fortune An essence which soured You did not know of the The sand and Ice that They did not know Thought their conditions Did not know they You went away into a Thought your new conditions Did not know you You survived without us We "survived" without you Common Motherland After you left Gave rise to the insane The insanity spread Our Fathers panicked Our MOTHER EARTH
So well loved by "INCREASE AND MULTIPLY" They stampeded us through We, arrogant pups And when we "discovered" Even now EARTH You show our When you turn away from us In our treatment of you In their anguish and despair We saw you as in our We thought to bring you To see your reality as To know it as A MIRAGE A CRUEL TEASE We tested you with We tested you with I weep for you We asked you We asked you IN YOUR SIGHS IN YOU DREAMS IN YOUR WORDS IN YOUR SCREAMS IN YOUR BLOOD IN YOUR DEATH IN YOUR LIFE WE HEAR YOUR ANSWER Our Fathers were wrong We weep for them We are wrong TURN AWAY FROM US Cling anew to what Keep the faith of our While we wrestle We must go away from you We must go away and heal ourselves BUT, BEWARE OF WHAT WE BEAR FALSE WITNESS Know that the sand and ice Know that our Fathers thought DO NOT LET US STAMPEDE YOU INTO GENOCIDE TERRACIDE: WE MURDER OUR MOTHER So, run from us In HER anguish and pain Then SHE will welcome you back To continue nursing Those who remain Weep for Us . . . . . . . . . . . . FORGET ABOUT US.
